OCTAFest 2027 Rules
For complete information about festival rules, please refer to the 2027 AACT Festival Handbook. Here is a summary of some of the major festival rules:
Who May Enter
Any amateur theatre that has been organized in Oregon for at least one year prior to the state festival, and has produced at least two shows for public performance, is eligible to enter the festival process.
Each theatre may enter only one production in one state. However, theatres may present additional showcase productions with the permission of the Festival Chair. Showcase productions are not considered for “outstanding production” and may not advance to the regional festival.
The registration fee is $150 per production for OCTA members ($200 for non-OCTA members. Register by December 1, 2027 to get a $25 Early Bird Discount. A theatre that is not a member of the AACT must pay an additional fee.
Rules for Productions
Eligible entries may include:
-
A cutting of a full-length play or musical
-
A one-act play
-
Any other theatrical performance, including children’s theatre productions intended for youth audiences and/or performed by children
The total performance time may not exceed 60 minutes, including:
-
Introductions
-
Scene changes
-
Curtain calls
The official timing of the performance:
-
Begins with any element that brings the audience into the world of the play (e.g., music, sound, movement, lighting, etc.)
-
Ends when all such elements fully cease
If set-up or strike is used to establish mood, character, or otherwise begin the theatrical experience, it will be considered part of the 60-minute performance time.
Production Responsibilities
Each company is responsible for providing its own sets, props and furniture.
Adjudication
Adjudicators will respond to each performance immediately following its conclusion. Emphasis will be placed on acting and direction, with final consideration given to the overall realization of the production.
If you have any questions about these rules, please contact OCTAFest Chair David Gross (david@oregoncta.org) or refer to the 2027 AACT Festival Handbook.
